HoloLens as substitute for Ideal PC workplace computer




Workers may now finally use a HoloLens headset as an alternative of a traditional Windows computer to communicate with co-workers on Skype or compose a report in Word. This is just one of the forecasts from research firm Tractica, which considered at the effect wearable devices will have on enterprises and customers as the technology becomes more widely used.

Microsoft is pitching its HoloLens amplified reality headset as the next computing platform, said analyst Aditya Kaul in an interview. All Microsoft software that includes productivity apps like Microsoft Office and communication programs such as Skype, as well as other third-party apps that could run on HoloLens, Kaul said. That is due to Universal Windows Platform that lets developers write their app once and run it on any device that supports Windows.

Microsoft has been talking up this feature during the release of Windows 10, its latest OS. Incorporating these apps into HoloLens could result in the headset pushing out a traditional Windows desktop to turn into the primary workplace computer, the research firm said.
